MATHEMATICAL TERMINOLOGY IN THE 19TH CENTURY
(Abstract)

In this study the author analyses the terminology of mathematics in the 19th century, focusing on an investigation of the terms belonging to the general field of mathematics. In this respect, the 39 entries composing our lexical inventory recorded in Ion Costinescu’s Vocabularu romano-francesu [The Romanian-French Vocabulary] (Bucharest, 1870) are approached from a morphological, semantical and etymological points of view. Their analysis enables accurate remarks related to their dynamics, and their statute in the ancient and current Romanian language.
